spider-man,
2099
earth-928? 616? what the—?
you might think 'OH GOD, SPIDER-MAN', but don't worry, this isn't peter fucking parker. there aren't a million issues and 60-odd years worth of issues to try and make heads and tails of. this is more or less the extent of
spider-man 2099's continuity — volume one launched in 1992, ran until 1996. volume two was in 2014, with volume three in 2015.
there was a vague reboot of the continuity in 2019, but we don't fucking talk about that.
OG
SPIDER-MAN 2099, volume one. ( 1992 - 1996, peter david )
og s-man 2099, lads! peter david wrote the series up until issue 44, at which point he departed and the series took a WILD TURN (aka peter david hates it) before being cancelled at issue 46. basically, like, it's great up until the point it's not.
yes, fellas, this is when miguel (mostly) has red hair.
2099: manifest destiny. ( 1998, leo kaminski )
so marvel called up peter david and where like 'YO SO WHAT DID YOU HATE AT THE END OF 2099 VOL ONE?' and peter david told them, and this is (kinda) the result. in terms of continuity, it's neither here nor there, but it's a so-so read! especially if you want to see more of miguel and xina.
RECENT
SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN( issues #17 - #19, #29 - #31. )
firstly: fuck dan slott and his weird 2099 slang. secondly: this is really only relevant if you want to know how and why miguel ends up in the 616 continuity. from a characterisation pov, it's not great.
SPIDER-MAN 2099, volume two( 2014, peter david )
this follows on from ssm. honestly, it's great up until, like, spider-verse.
if you're wondering if miguel is still an ass, the answer is a resounding 'yes, he absolutely is'.
all-new x-factor( issue #20 )
sheds some light on shenanigans between vol. two and
secret wars, pre-vol. 3.
yes, there's a
secret wars tie-in featuring miguel and the 2099 gang, but it's mediocre at best and can totally be skipped.
SPIDER-MAN 2099, volume three( 2015, peter david )
of the three volumes written by PAD, this is by the far the weakest. ties in with
PI-era ASM, which
actually does work for miguel, but it once again gets somewhat derailed.
but honestly? as much as i love miguel, i'm totally here for his working relationship with raul.
raul is
the best supporting character simply for how much shit he puts up with.
blah blah blah
